Do It Anyways

Words to live by throughout the year and your life.

Some sources say that the words below were written on the wall inMother Teresa's own room.  In any case, their association with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity has made them popular worldwide, expressing as they do, the spirit in which they lived their lives.

They seem to be based on a composition originally by Kent Keith, but much of the second half has been re-written in a more spiritual way.

Do It Anyways

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.

Forgive them anyway.

~*~*~*~

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.

Be kind anyway.

~*~*~*~

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends
and some genuine enemies.

Succeed anyway.

~*~*~*~

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.

Be honest and sincere anyway.

~*~*~*~

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.

Create anyway.

~*~*~*~

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.

Be happy anyway.

~*~*~*~

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.

Do good anyway.

~*~*~*~

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.

Give your best anyway.

~*~*~*~

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them anyway.

~*~*~*~

Being Yourself ~ A Beautiful Message from Bob Proctor

If you want to succeed you must be different from the masses. Be yourself. Do not be afraid to assert your true personality. Don't ever forget that you are a unique individual. As soon as you tow the line, you are denying your true personality and virtually denying yourself the opportunity to grow.

Although society, in general has done an excellent job of turning most of us into clones by eliminating difference and nipping our personal aspirations in the bud, a tiny inner voice nevertheless survives within each of us. Timid and worried, it whispers to us that our public images are false, that our genuine personalities are hidden and unexpressed. Frustration, sadness, and in some cases, a feeling of being dead inside, are some of the disadvantages we heap upon ourselves.

The fear of being different and the need to conform are false and destructive. It is an acquired concept, not something we were born with. Here are five powerful affirmations. Read these affirmations aloud a number of times every day for thirty days:
  • Day after day I am asserting my true personality more and more.
  • I am unique and feel completely free to express my desire to succeed.
  • It is my right and duty to be myself.
  • The success I achieve will be in keeping with the extent to which I assert myself. I am asserting myself more and more in all areas of my life.
  • Every day I am increasing my self-worth ten fold and becoming more and more successful.

Repeating these affirmations on a daily basis will develop courage. The opposite of courage is not cowardice; the opposite of courage is conformity. Be yourself. Dare to Win.

The Downside of Inciting Envy

THE Irish singer Bono once described a difference between America and his native land. “In the United States,” he explained, “you look at the guy that lives in the mansion on the hill, and you think, you know, one day, if I work really hard, I could live in that mansion. In Ireland, people look up at the guy in the mansion on the hill and go, one day, I’m going to get that bastard.”

Alexis de Tocqueville phrased it a little differently, but his classic 19th-century text contains the same observation. Visiting from France, he marveled at Americans’ ability to keep envy at bay, and to see others’ successes as portents of good times for all.

7 Tips to Achieve Your Goals

As we move on from the holidays and settle into 2014, it’s common practice to set goals and resolutions for the new year. However, as many of us can attest to, many of these goals, especially long term ones, will fall by the wayside as the weeks and months pass by. This week we’ll be examining 7 simple tips for sticking to your goals and accomplishing them.

#1  Live up to your own expectations. Set your own goals, not those someone else’s. By setting the bar yourself, you will be more motivated to reach your goals and push yourself beyond your initial expectations.

#2  Write your goal down. Be specific and always keep it visible as a reminder.

#3  Reward yourself to celebrate achieving small milestones. Motivate yourself with a small reward for each step you accomplish toward achieving your goal. This can be something as simple as taking yourself out to lunch, taking a break to do something you enjoy, spending time with friends and family, or buying something to help with the next stage of your goal.

#4  Eliminate distractions and avoid taking on too many activities all at once. Stay focused on the task at hand to avoid getting sidetracked. Break the task down into small incremental steps to keep your goal realistic and don’t multitask.

#5  Get all the facts. Weigh all of the facts before you come to a decision in order to make the most informed choices possible.

#6  Dream big. Set your sights high, even on the outrageous. Better to set the bar too high than too low.

#7  Be willing to fail. Accept the fact that you might fail, learn from your mistakes, and get back on the horse. It’s better to regret something you have tried then something you haven’t tried.

Are You Guilty of These 7 Deadly "Thinking" Sins?

Chances are, what you've been THINKING over the past two weeks is a likely indicator of how the coming year will shape up for you.

So before you get too far into this amazing year ahead, I've come up with the "7 Deadly THINKING Sins" for you today and wanted to explore them with you.

Here they are and the perspective you need to take steps to eliminate them:

1. "I'll do it tomorrow." The truth is you're never going to feel like doing what needs to be done. We all fool ourselves into thinking there will be a better time in the near future.

* Anything you're putting off isn't going to get any easier.

* The most successful people are very good at taking care of the most important tasks at hand. Some things are uncomfortable, and it's necessary to push through that discomfort. Start with baby steps and build up your tolerance for addressing what challenges you most!

2. "I can't do this. I can't stick with anything." If you don't think you can do something, you'll probably prove yourself right. This is especially true with the big stuff.

* Remember that it's not about discipline. It's really about focus, motivation and mindset.

* Tell yourself that you can do it. Remind yourself that it's more about getting motivated and applying yourself consistently. Discipline is only a good tool in the short-term. Limit yourself to one big goal and get excited about it.

3. Thinking that someone else's success impacts you negatively. It's erroneous to believe that only a limited number of people can be successful. There's room for everyone.

* It might be lonelier at the top, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for you. You can be successful too.

* When others do well, you're actually better off being happy for them. You can examine their success and learn from it. You'll also come to realize that other truly successful people will be happy when you succeed as well.

4. "It's too late for me." We all have missed opportunities from our past, but that doesn't mean it's too late. People in their 60's have attended medical school and law school. Others don't get married or have children until later in life.

* Some things do take a significant amount of time to achieve, but that doesn't mean you can't get started today.

5. "I'll never be successful." Everyone fails at something along the way to success. The good news is that failure can be the best way to learn. But focusing on your failures just causes you to feel bad all the time.

* Focus your attention on your successes. Look back over your past and remember all the times you were successful. Make a list of your past successes and add your new successes to the list as they happen.

6. "Why is this happening again?" Unpleasant things just happen. It's a normal part of life. However, just like our failures, if we spend our time dwelling on them, we make ourselves miserable and attract more of that misery.

* We all suffer at times, but that suffering passes and makes room for positive things. Avoid dwelling on the negative and look forward to better times.

7. "I can be happy once I have (accomplished or earned) ______." It's unreasonable to hold yourself back from happiness until you've achieved some milestone. Unfortunately, once that goal is reached, there are more goals that follow. Putting off your happiness can become a harmful
habit.

* It's important to learn to be happy with where you are and what you have. That doesn't mean you have to be completely satisfied or become complacent, but you might as well be happy in the meantime.  Negative thoughts have a tremendous impact on your happiness and success.

Time Of Your Life

Do you reflect upon the years gone by
as you prepare for yet one more,
with promises and resolutions
that you have made before?
Do memories of people and places
once as sharp as any knife
now blend in bits and pieces
in a kaleidoscope of life?
Do you squander precious minutes
seeking reasons why you’re here,
contemplating your life’s purpose
year after passing year?
Persuade yourself to understand,
it matters not the reason.
Your purpose is to seize the life
in every passing season!
Learn to see things differently.
Let your thoughts and actions change.
Allow your views of past and present
to slowly rearrange.
Let your spirit start anew;
become focused and aware
of the moments and the blessings
that surround you everywhere!
Do not permit past memories:
the where…the who…the how
to become more important
than the ones you’re making now.
Live life in person;
inhabit every day.
You may not like where you are now,
but you’re there anyway!
A lifetime is a puzzle,
every failure, each success
adds another jagged piece
to fit together with the rest.
To finish the picture
and view the masterpiece whole,
fill the time of your life
with your heart and your soul.
Acquaint yourself with your feelings
and heighten your senses.
Experience living.
Put down your defenses.
You don’t have to know why
you are you, and I’m me.
Believe it is what it is
and it’s how it should be.
You did not choose your date of birth,
nor do you know your last,
so live this gift that is your present,
before it becomes your past.
